Extreme Weather in Japan

The extreme weather that I chose were the heavy rains that occur in Japan, from July through October there seems to be heavy rain in Japan. Precipitation can exceed 100mm per hour which could overwhelm the drainage capacity of flood control centers. Japan has been recently hit with unusually heavy rains, due to these heavy rains there are a lot of landslides that occur which are a very dangerous risk for so many homes. Due to these heavy rain falls, it has caused significant flooding which leads to the damaging of homes. A couple ways that Japan has made an effort to mitigate this are by using a High-Resolution Precipitation Forecast which provide short-range precipitation intensity predictions with a spatial resolution of 250 m. This information is obtained from weather radar data and other types of meteorological information. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) observes precipitation distribution all over Japan using 20 Doppler radars. Japan has one of the most advanced early warning systems in the world, when there is extreme heavy rainfall there is a procedure in place and warnings/advisories that are sent out to the people of Japan.
